One of my twins has suffered from reflux & constipation since I had to stop breastfeeding her around 2 months. The Pediatrician we were seeing at that time put her on a reflux medicine which in turn made her constipation even worse, thus making her VERY fussy. But she had to have the reflux medicine or she would wake up choking/gagging everynight. He kept telling us to give her more juice and that worked sometimes but that also made her have more reflux and made her very gassy. But he pretty much didn't seem to care.
We switched Dr's and the new Dr checked to make sure she had no blockages in her actual butt, she didn't. So he took some X-rays. He could see that she had hard poo in her entire intestines and he said it should NOT be like that. He said her body might not be able to break down the regular formula she was on so he gave us a couple samples of this and said to try that.
I can't remember if it was 1 or 2 days later but she finally poo'd on her own. And several times a day she was pooing and it was soft, not rock hard balls as it had been. My daughter was finally less fussy & gassy and we didn't care how expensive this stuff was since it made my daughter sleep better & happier.
However, after about 2 weeks she started getting constipated again. She was still pooing every several days but then she started pooing less and less and it was getting rock hard again although nothing else had changed. So we kept her on this formula for another month but since she was still getting constipated and this formula is thinner than most so it was giving her more reflux/spit up we took her off of it. After we took her off of it she stopped having so much reflux/spit up.
I also had called the company because someone wrote they will send you a case for free but that is based on your income. They did call me and I took a brief survey and they sent me a full size can for free for doing so. So it is definately work making a call to them.
If your baby is extremely fussy, has sever constipation or diarrhea, talk w/ your Pediatrician about switching formulas. If you have a crappy one like the first one I did, get a new one. And try different formulas on your own if your Dr seems to think it is no big deal. You are the parent, you know when something is not right with your baby.
I would recommend trying smaller cans of formula as opposed to buying a case of 6 before you try them out first.
